The House of Representatives stresses the importance of reforming, modernizing and developing seaports in Hodeidah Governorate

The Council discussed, in the presence of the Ministers of Transport and State for the Affairs of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council of the caretaker government, Abdul Wahab Al-Durra, Dr. Ali Abu Haliqa, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Maritime Affairs and Ports, Muhammad Ishaq, and specialists in the relevant authorities, the report of the Transport and Communications Committee on the results of its visit to Hodeidah Governorate to review the conditions of the Ports Corporation. In the context of their discussions, members of the House of Representatives stressed the importance of repairing, modernizing and developing the seaports in Hodeidah Governorate, performing regular maintenance on them, and providing them with the necessary machinery and equipment, in a way that ensures that they are prepared to receive the movement of commercial ships that meet the needs and requirements of citizens.

The House of Representatives heard from the Minister of Transport in the caretaker government an explanation about the necessary needs for maintenance work and the efforts made to prepare an emergency plan that identifies those needs, indicating that the plan, which included the purchase of new cranes, as well as pilot cranes, fire engines, and other needs and necessary equipment, was presented to the government. The caretaker government’s Ministers of Finance and Transport were assigned to implement it.

After extensive discussion, the House of Representatives approved the committee’s report after the government side, represented by the Minister of Transport in the caretaker government, committed to implementing the following recommendations:
– Working to improve the level of provision of support services in the Corporation’s ports so that they are an attractive factor for ships searching for these services to enter the ports, as well as loading and unloading operations.

Approving adequate allocations in the budget of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, given the nature of the corporation’s economic activity, and setting a special wage and salary list commensurate with the nature of the work of the corporation and its affiliated ports.

– Paying attention to maintaining and modernizing ports, their machinery and equipment, and developing a system to ensure the safety of maritime navigation and protect the Yemeni coasts.
– Working to transport gas trailers from within the city and port of Hodeidah to Ras Issa port, due to the danger of their remaining near residential neighborhoods.

– Encouraging the private sector to invest in the field of maritime transport, especially in establishing and operating transport lines to and from Hodeidah Port and in the field of navigational services, loading, unloading, storage, supply and maintenance of ships.

– Addressing the international community, the United Nations and international organizations through possible means to assume the moral and humanitarian responsibility to completely lift the embargo on the ports of Hodeidah and Saleef and the port of Ras Issa, stop piracy on commercial ships, and demand that our country be compensated fairly for the damage and losses it sustained as a result of the aggression and siege.

– Allocating a special session in the presence of the Prime Minister and members of the government to discuss the status of Hodeidah Port and come up with solutions and treatments that will ensure the operation of the port and the rest of the corporation’s ports in full readiness.
