WFP director visits Hodeida port
On Tuesday, 22/3/1444 AH, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, Captain Mohammed Abu Bakr Ishaq, met the Director of the World Food Program Office, Asif Ali.
The meeting reviewed the coordination mechanism between the Foundation and the program, the navigation and commercial activity of the Hodeida port, the movement of ships and the unloading of goods in the port, and the facilities provided by the Foundation’s ports to ships carrying humanitarian aid.
In the meeting, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Red Sea Ports Corporation clarified that the Corporation’s ports are civilian, and that the continuation of their siege multiplies the repercussions of the humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen, calling on those in charge of the program to carry out their humanitarian duty towards the Yemeni people and for there to be a real voice for the United Nations organizations about what Yemenis are suffering.
Ishaq expressed his hope that the United Nations would play an active role in stopping the aggression and the siege, pointing to the catastrophic repercussions of the international community’s continued neglect of the tragedy of the Yemeni people and the daily suffering they have been experiencing for more than seven years, which negatively affected the lives and livelihoods of all Yemenis.
In turn, the director of the World Food Program office expressed the program’s aspiration to achieve all the aspirations of the leadership of the institution, praising the role that the institution’s ports provide in terms of facilities for the ships affiliated with the program.
He stressed the importance of the port of Hodeida as a lifeline for Yemenis, through which it receives relief materials, foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals and oil derivatives in light of the current conditions that the country is going through at the present time.
