Discussing the mechanism of cooperation and coordination between the sectors operating in the port of Hodeidah and the World Food Programme

A meeting held at the Red Sea Ports Corporation – Hodeidah Port, Saturday 10-21-2023 AD, headed by the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Zaid Ahmed Al-Washli, and the Head of the Supply Unit of the World Food Program, Irving Prado, discussed areas of cooperation and coordination between the Ports Corporation and the program, the program’s activities, and its role in providing humanitarian aid to the people of Yemeni people.
The meeting, in the presence of the head of the International Cooperation Department of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs, Faisal Modhesh, the director of the branch of the Humanitarian Affairs Council in Hodeidah Governorate, Jaber Al-Razhi, the directors of the Standards, Metrology and Quality Control Authority, Khalil Ahmed Al-Jawfi, and the Deputy Director General of Hodeidah Port Customs, Adel Muhammad Abbas, reviewed the facilities provided by the Red Sea ports and sectors. Operating in it for ships carrying humanitarian aid affiliated with the program and the navigational and commercial activity of Hodeidah Port.
The Vice President of the Red Sea Ports Corporation stressed the close relationship between the program and the organization, considering that the port of Hodeidah represents an important port for the delivery and transfer of humanitarian aid and relief materials affiliated with the program to all the Yemeni people in various regions and governorates.
While the head of the International Cooperation Department of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs praised the Food Program’s contributions to supporting efforts aimed at alleviating the severity of human suffering, praising the humanitarian role played by the World Food Program in Yemen and its humanitarian partners, he also stressed that the port of Hodeidah is a lifeline for millions of Yemenis, and in view of what has been exposed. It has been subjected to systematic targeting to put it out of readiness and service, which was not achieved due to the tremendous efforts made by the port administration, which worked to continue work in it despite everything it was exposed to. This stage also requires the concerted efforts of all United Nations organizations to intervene to rehabilitate its infrastructure that enables it. To carry out its tasks in an optimal manner, everything must be done to ensure the easy flow of humanitarian aid through the port and to overcome all difficulties facing the food program.

The meeting stressed the need for United Nations organizations to fulfill their obligations to rehabilitate the port of Hodeidah to increase its operational capabilities in receiving arriving shipments.
The meeting also stressed the importance of cargo transport ships being modern and conforming to specifications to ensure the safety and smoothness of transport, loading and unloading.
During the meeting, the Vice President of the Red Sea Ports Corporation expressed the Corporation’s readiness to provide all facilities for the program.
While the head of the World Food Program Supply Unit indicated the World Food Program’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the Corporation and the sectors operating within it in a way that serves common interests and addresses any difficulties… praising the efforts and cooperation of the Supreme Council, the Red Sea Ports Corporation and the operating sectors to make the program’s work and its various activities a success.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Office of the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ali Al-Ansi, the Director General of the Container Terminal, Captain Shawqi Murshed, and the General Director of Berths and Yards, Captain Ghamdan Muharram.
