Discussion of the matrix of UNDP projects for the rehabilitation of Hodeidah ports

 

The Minister of Transport, Abdul-Wahab Al-Durra, and the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, Ibrahim Al-Hamli, met in Al-Hodeidah Governorate, the Director of the OCHA Office, “Birgitte Felty”, and the Project Officer of the United Nations Development Program, “Hima Khadaka”.

During the meeting, they discussed the matrix of projects that the United Nations pledged to implement at the ports of the Red Sea Corporation, to rehabilitate what was destroyed by the aggression in the ports of Hodeidah and Salif.

The meeting, which was attended by the CEO of the Corporation, Mohammed Ishaq, and the Deputy Director of the World Food Program, Tariq Aoun, reviewed the technical aspects of the port of Hodeidah and its operational readiness to receive all types of commercial ships, including relief ones.

He touched on the projects that have been submitted by the Foundation, which require urgent implementation to improve the services it provides, in a way that contributes to alleviating the suffering of the citizen.

In the meeting, Minister Al-Durra praised the efforts of the Red Sea Ports Corporation in maintaining its technical and professional readiness, despite the difficult circumstances it went through.

He stressed the need for the port to include an aspect of rehabilitation and development at the current stage, pointing to the interest of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council in developing the performance of the port of Hodeidah in accordance with the technical requirements in force globally.

For his part, Al-Hamli called on the United Nations to pay attention to the ports of Hodeidah and fulfill its commitments regarding development projects that have been implemented for a long time, indicating that the ports of Hodeidah and Saleef provide their services in accordance with international standards.

In turn, the head of the corporation stressed the importance of the United Nations playing an active role in rehabilitating the ports of Hodeidah, following the damage it suffered as a result of its targeting by the countries of aggression.

He pointed to the need of the Corporation at the current stage to conduct maintenance of some equipment such as tug boats.

While the directors of OCHA and UNDP projects confirmed their readiness to make more efforts and work on everything that would accelerate the pace of rehabilitation and maintenance within the ports of Hodeidah, as this serves the humanitarian work.

They appreciated the cooperation of the relevant authorities with OCHA and the program in implementing their various activities and programmes.
