The Undersecretary of the Meteorological Sector confirms keenness on training, rehabilitation and capacity building

 

Eng. Mohamed Saeed Hameed, Assistant Undersecretary for Meteorological Affairs, at the opening of the training course on the synoptic analysis of atmospheric pressure systems affecting the pressure and climate of the Arabian Peninsula, which is organized today by the Institute of Civil Aviation and Meteorology, pointed to the importance of specialized training to develop cadres and raise their competencies to keep pace with the rapid developments in weather and climate sciences. .

The Assistant Undersecretary also affirmed keenness on training, qualifying, raising capabilities, and keeping abreast of developments in the field of meteorology, according to the requirements of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Hamid added, “We are facing a major challenge in providing information to beneficiaries with high accuracy and reliability in order to preserve lives and public and private property in general, and aviation safety in particular.”

The two-week course aims to provide 14 participants from meteorological staff with the impact of atmospheric pressure systems on the weather and climate of the Arabian Peninsula, in addition to analyzing and interpreting satellite images of clouds and associated weather phenomena.

The training program also includes a special chapter concerned with an analytical study of the emergence, rise and path of tropical cyclones in the Arabian Sea, which are considered among the most dangerous extreme weather phenomena for our country.

During the opening, the Director General of the Institute of Civil Aviation and Meteorology, Dr. Naji Al-Sahmi, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the participants in the course and urged them to commit and benefit as much as possible from its contents, noting the institute’s readiness to provide all facilities for the success of the course and achieving its goals.

For his part, the trainer of the course, the meteorological consultant, Eng. Sami Ali Saleh, indicated in his speech that this course is being held for the first time at the Institute of Civil Aviation and Meteorology, where the curriculum was prepared with vocabulary that meets the actual needs of the trainees in the theoretical and practical aspects, which is devoted to studying the weather and climate of Yemen and its weather phenomena in particular. This is what distinguishes this course from the external courses that are general in studying weather elements and weather phenomena.
