Finnish Airlines lays off 200 employees as a result of Russia’s closure of its airspace

The Finnish airline has decided to lay off nearly 200 employees, including 120 in Finland, as a result of Russia’s closure of its airspace in response to Western sanctions.

Yul TV channel reported Thursday that the layoffs will not affect pilots and other flight personnel and crews.

According to the same source, the need for layoffs stems from the closure of Russian airspace to Finnish aircraft.

This move will lead to further modifications that will affect approximately 770 people.

The company had earlier cuts in staff, and to

reduce the size of its losses, it began renting planes with crews to other airlines.

Russian airspace was closed to the Finnish airline’s planes in March, in response to similar actions by Finland in relation to Russian air carriers.
